Vocabulary Knowledge in L3 French: A Study of Swedish Learners’ Vocabulary Depth

The overall aim of the present study is to achieve a better understanding young instructed Swedish learners’ vocabulary knowledge in L3 French, by examining various aspects depth. Previous research has shown that this learner group’s size increases systematically, and at relatively fast pace, from grade 6 through 9 (i.e., first year studies French onwards; age 12 15). However, tests only give quantitative estimation about how many words test takers know, do not say anything qualitative word knowledge. Vocabulary depth, on other hand, concerns such aspects. In order arrive more complete picture knowledge, both depth need be examined. study, were analyzed choices written elicited production task. data consist 105 retellings students grades 6, 7, 8, 9. Word pertaining key elements included analysis, with focus orthographical, semantic, morphological deep results show orthographical similar throughout years, same spelling difficulties occurring all rates.
